Lurita Doan has been described as a “compulsive bootstrapper” by Inc. Magazine, a “powerhouse” by Forbes magazine, a “Friend of the Americas” by representatives from Mexico, Canada and the U.S., a philanthropic “Angel In the Wings” by the Shakespeare Company of Washington, DC, and a mentor for NCIS by Executive Women in Government.
Lurita was born in New Orleans, is descended from three generations of African American entrepreneurs, and speaks from 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and corporate board member, a Presidential appointee and a radio and TV commentator. Lurita was identified in February 2008 as one of the 25 Most Influential Black Women in Business, and has since received many other awards that cite her as a visionary and leader.
Lurita was selected as one of the SBA’s Women Business Owner Success Stories for its 50th Anniversary Celebration. In December 2004, Lurita was selected as one of the members of the inaugural class of 50 “Women Who Mean Business” by the Washington Business Journal.
Among Lurita’s business awards are the 2004 National Women’s Business Council Award for entrepreneurship, the 2003 National Director’s Award for Entrepreneurial Innovation from the Department of Commerce, the 2003 Committee of 200 Luminary Award for Innovation in Technology, and the 2003 Visionary Award from the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. From 2008 to 2010, Lurita served as the host of Leadership Matters on Federal News Radio (WFED). Lurita received her Bachelor’s Degree from Vassar College and a Master’s Degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Lurita serves on the Board of Directors of several private sector businesses and innovation incubators.
